Petition to City of Edmond/ from Edmond Electric Customers

We, the undersigned Edmond Electric customers, as concerned citizens of Edmond, urge our city leaders to act now to prevent the use of the SMART METER SYSTEM technology in Edmond for meter reading, control of utilities, and information gathering. These systems can be hazardous to the health of citizens and have proven to be inaccurate, unreliable, and easily hacked into, to interfere with other technological systems, and represent an intrusion into the private lives of Americans by gathering information on their lives. This is information that the government does not need. Citizens of Edmond do not want the SMART METER SYSTEM in our city. We urge Edmond to say No to big government and more control over our lives. These meters have been proven to be dangerous and a threat to all including the poor and disabled.

The SMART METER SYSTEM can control an individuals access to utilities and interfere directly with the contract for utility services a private individual made with the utility supplier. It represents more governmental control over American private lives. We the undersigned request that the City of Edmond stop all studies, consideration, and planning to use such technology against its citizens. Smart Meters raise the costs of utilities, hurt the poor, the disabled, infringe the rights of all, and threaten the health of the community. Many communities are opting out of such programs. We request Edmond to opt out also.
