Petition to Empower The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Specifically the right of expression under section 2(b)
Petition summary and background:
The Canadian Charter of Rights guaranties us all; (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; among other things. The Governments of Vancouver and North Vancouver, have taken it upon themselves to go beyond their Jurisdiction by creating By-Laws that restrict and or eliminate an artist right to freely express themselves.
Action petitioned for:
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to remove any By-Laws that specifically restrict or target freedom of expression through licencing or fines. The rights listed in the Charter of Rights were not written for the Canadian peoples reminder - for as free minded people we are well aware of our rights and duties, they are self-evident throughout our past. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms exist to be a daily guideline and a limit to the authority of the Canadian Peoples three branches of Government; The Legislative, The Executive and the Judicial branches. The human experience is riddled with suffering do to the Tyranny of those intrusted with powers and authority over our laws and business. Because of such trespasses men and women have given their lives to insure that Law would be above Tyranny and that we, under protection of our Constitutional Rights and the limits it places on our Government, and its Agents, be able to live in Liberty and peacefully pursue our lives’ coarse happily free from Tyranny. We must all remember that in the past, whether it was Roman or Nazi or other tyrannous powers, the very first Tyranny of all Evil Empires is to supress the Artist and the Writer.
We, the undersigning people, demand that the Vancouver Council and Mayor as well as the North Vancouver Council and Mayor, and any other governments bodies whether it be Municipal, Provincial, or Federal in Canada do this immediately;
Remove any Bylaw that specifically licences or restricts expression, whether expression is by Speaking, Singing, Dancing, Painting or any other form of peaceful expression. We as Canadian Citizens and Artist do not wish to be exempt from respecting our neighbours by expressing ourselves in other than a peaceful manner or with disregard to others, we only wish to not be specifically targeted by our Government with laws and force that targets our rights of expression guaranteed under our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
