Petition to Help Military Service Member

Over the past 5 years, our military service people have been "FORCED" to fight what many consider an unjust war. My cause, today, is not to protest the war, but to rally support for a just cause.

As everyone should know, more than 8 billion dollars is spent in Iraq monthly, but that is not all. The media and our government do not show how terrible the front is in other war torn areas such as Afghanistan.

If our president can use our monies to support and help other people, isn't it only fair that he utilize some of that money to help the American people. If not the entire American body, but at least those forced to fight.

Service members could better serve our country if they were able to readily communicate with their loved one at home. Many military service members are killed in Iraq, Afghanistan as well as other countries and they have not had the opportunity to speak with their loves ones for one last time.

Military members sometimes have to go days without having the opportunity to speak with their loved ones. You may say, well there are phones that they can use their calling cards on as well as DSN phones. The sad reality is, most of the time these phones are slow to connect, out of service when not occupied. Even when those phones are occupied, the service members are given a little time to talk.

So I say, if Bush can spend billions upon billions of dollars on other people, then he should be willing (but if not willing, forced) to ensure that every service member stationed in a war zone is given cell phone and allotted so many minutes a month, which will allow them to call home free.

Many of you may not realize how expensive international calls can be. My husband, who is currently in Afghanistan, bought himself an international cell phone, but the cost to load minutes on the phone is so expensive. Since the cell phone can receive calls, I can get a calling card to call him. Up to date, I have spent more than $300 on calls. This is not fair, if our government can spend billions of dollars for help others, it can spend at least a 10th of that to help us.
