Petition to Support Fair Crypto Taxation & Web3 Development in India

Subject: Appeal to rationalize the 30% crypto tax to a growth-oriented rate and support Web3 innovation

We, the undersigned citizens of India and supporters of blockchain technology from across the world, respectfully submit this petition seeking a review and reduction of the current 30% tax on virtual digital assets in India.

Blockchain and Web3 are not speculative trends; they represent the next phase of the internet, powering transparent systems, decentralized finance, digital identity, supply chains, governance tools, and creator economies. India already has one of the largest Web3 user bases and developer communities globally, yet current taxation policies are discouraging innovation rather than guiding it.

A flat 30% tax, without differentiation between speculation and development activity, has led to:

Migration of Indian Web3 startups to foreign jurisdictions

Loss of domestic innovation and employment opportunities

Reduced on-chain activity within India

Capital and talent outflow from the Indian digital ecosystem

We respectfully propose that the crypto tax be rationalized to a moderate rate such as 8%, allowing the government to:

Encourage compliance instead of avoidance

Retain Indian founders, developers, and capital

Build a regulated, transparent Web3 economy

Position India as a global leader rather than an observer

History has shown that neglecting emerging technology is more harmful than regulating it wisely. Countries that embraced the internet early became digital leaders; those that resisted fell behind. Web3 presents a similar inflection point.

This petition is not only from India, but from a global Web3 community that believes innovation should not be restricted by fear or misunderstanding. Blockchain is borderless, and policy decisions in one major nation influence the entire ecosystem worldwide.

We urge policymakers to engage with builders, technologists, and communities to create balanced regulations that protect users without stifling progress.

Reducing the crypto tax is not a loss of revenue — it is an investment in India’s digital future, global competitiveness, and technological sovereignty.

Review the 30% crypto tax framework

Reduce it to a development-friendly rate
