Petition summary and background:
Currently there are plans to close an Elementary School and a Middle School and consolidate students among the remaining schools. We feel this plan needs more time to be researched and better formulated.
Action petitioned for:
We, citizens of the Bloomfield Hills School District, are asking the Board not to close any schools unless and until a plan for each and every school in the district has been completed. We commend the Facilities Master Plan Goal Team, Administration and Board for all their hard work, but feel that any decision made at this time would be premature. As concerned parents, community members and taxpayers, we do not want to see schools close piecemeal and children redistricted and uprooted more than they have to be. At the first town hall meeting, we were told that Districts typically
take one year to make these types of decisions, and that time table appears to be reasonable. We also ask that the high school issue be considered as part of a comprehensive plan for the future of the entire district. Please take the necessary time to complete a final plan before closing any schools
