WHEREAS, Ottawa was founded as an English-speaking City, with liberty to all people to use whatever language they wish in their business or other pursuits; and
WHEREAS, Ottawa is home to thousands of people who left Quebec to escape language persecution under the laws of that Province; and
WHEREAS, Such bilingualism laws are a covert and manipulative form of discrimination under the guise of fairness, given that the majority of bilingual citizens are of French Canadian origin; and
WHEREAS, such discriminatory laws violate United Nations Conventions; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Government uses an undefined bilingualism to discriminate against English-speaking people, to enforce French where it is not warranted, and to project French as equal to the English language Canada; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Government has announced its intention to turn the City of Ottawa into a bilingual city without regard for the Constitutional authority of Ontario;
THEREFORE the undersigned petition the Premier and Government of Ontario, in order to protect the rights of the people of this Province, to hold a referendum vote of the residents of Ontario on the issue of official bilingualism. The only way that official bilingualism could be imparted on Ontario is if the people of Ontario say that is their desire via the referendum.
