We, the undersigned, join Council Member Mathieu Eugene and fellow elected officials, immigration advocates and community leaders in urging President Barack Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to establish a Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program. Currently, thousands of Haitians who have been approved for family-based visas are waiting in Haiti to enter the United States and be reunited with their children, parents, spouses and other family members. Two years after the 2010 earthquake, hundreds of thousands of Haitians still lack basic necessities. Given the slow pace of recovery and rebuilding, we believe action can be taken to bring them to the United States. In 2007, the federal government created a similar parole program for Cuba. Now, we believe many Haitians waiting to enter the United States can be granted the same opportunity. A Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program is a valuable and necessary humanitarian action that will help reunite Haitians presently suffering with their families living in the United States.Sign below to give your support and join our advocacy.
