We petition Pfizer to include the Philippines in its trial centers for its existing Phase 3 clinical trials using SU 11248 for imatinib-intolerant GIST. Already one of the centers in the Philippines is preparaing to recruit renal cell carcinoma patients using the same drug SU 11248 as part of Pfizer's worldwide multi center trials for the renal cancer disease. Is it possible to therefore expand trials here in the Philippines to include trials for GIST patients now failing imatinib ?
This expansion of trials in the Philippines will make this potentially life-saving drug available to the GIST patients now failing imatinib. GIST or gastro-intestinal stromal tumor is a rare disease, however, we seem to have a relatively high incidence in the country. The closest trial center for GIST is in Singapore and the Philuppine patients will not be able to travel that far for lack of resources, medical asistance and insurance to cover treatment abroad.
We seek your compassion and support to bring hope to these patients now failing imatinib and save their lives.
