Manal Alsharif, a 32-year-old Saudi computer scientist and mother one, has been arrested in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, for posting a YouTube video where she filmed herself driving a car and for promoting a protest on June 17 against the country' ban on female drivers.
Ms. Alsharif is being detained solely for the peaceful exercise of her right to drive in a country where there is no explicit law preventing women from getting behind the wheel.
We are calling on Saudi authorities to release her immediately and unconditionally.
