Pledge to Support Prospective Businesses

To: Businesses and organizations wishing to locate to the Richmond, Indiana area.

We the Arboretum Allies see the Hayes Arboretum in Richmond, Indiana to be not only a natural resource, but also owned by a private entity; in that ownership we recognize the inherent right of the owners to make independent decisions regarding that property.

We consider the re-zoning and commercial development of Hayes Arboretum to be a substantial factor in the growth and social development to Richmond; not to be misunderstood as THE factor for change and forward movement, but merely a building block.

We also acknowledge the available commercial locations in the Richmond area, yet do understand that businesses must have flexibility in location. We recognize the relationship between our community and prospective businesses to be two-sided; meaning predetermined locations for businesses present a one-sided relationship thereby, causing unnecessary friction that may result in dissolution of thus said relationship.

We believe the development of the Arboretum land to be an economic value and NOT in conflict with the heritage of the community. We also believe this development DOES serve to enhance the health and well being of Richmond, Indiana. We understand the presupposition that national chain stores thrive on the trivializing of small businesses, but instead see this thriving to be a reflection of social and economic change in an expanding world.

WE THE UNDERSIGNED hereby pledge to support the economic development through the patronization of prospective businesses within the confines of current Arboretum property.
