Proposed Changes to AKC Online Breeder Website Classified Advertising Program

We are concerned owners of AKC registered dogs who would respectfully request that the AKC make the following changes in its proposed Online Breeder Classified initiative.
We are united in the belief that we, as individuals, and the AKC, as the most widely recognized purebred dog organization, should place the welfare of our dogs paramount to other considerations.
The AKC has a duty to educate the novice puppy buyer going to the AKC website, particularly in breed specific information. The novice has to make sure the particular breed puppy they have chosen is a suitable one. The puppy must be a welcome, long-term member of their family. The breeder must be there for them providing knowledgeable support before and after the sale.
A long-term breeder commitment is far more likely from a breeder who has been involved with AKC events and Parent Club/Regional Specialty Club events. Such specific, detailed disclosure should be mandatory.
We both should want the AKC registration to mean more than just purebred. We both have an interest in seeing that healthy, well adjusted puppies are available for sale on the AKC website. The best motivation for producing healthy puppies will be informed consumers demanding to know appropriate health information and preferring to buy from responsible, knowledgeable breeders.
Mandatory breed involvement information and mandatory breed specific health certifications (or lack thereof) can easily be made a part of the OBC listing with little cost to the AKC and a great benefit to our dogs.
We urge you to consider and make such changes to the OBC program.
