"We the undersigned oppose any development of the Dry Street area (Nethermayne Site) for housing, which is currently being proposed by the Housing and Communities Agency (HCA), South Essex College (SEC) and Basildon Borough Council. (BBC)
Irrespective of any ‘deal’ that is being made by BBC with SEC and HCA with regard to the funding and moving of Basildon College to a site - as yet to be determined - in Basildon Town Centre, the land at Dry Street is environmentally important ancient pasture land and recognised as having a special ecological status as a local wildlife site. Therefore, the site is irreplaceable and should remain.
We urge Basildon Borough Council to reconsider this proposal and fight to maintain the Dry Street site as open space for the benefit of Basildon and to again seek from government permission for this land to be designated as green belt land."
