To Mr. Martin- Prime Minister of Canada
Dear Sir,
Hereby, we protest the arrest of Mr. Namini by the Canadian authorities at the
Pierson airport Toronto on October 27, 2004. [SEYED MAHMOUD NAMINI.
FILE No. 374253834138--CLIENT No.- 5383-4138 CANADA BOARD SERVICE
AGENCY]. According to the authorities he has been detained for the book that he
was carrying-- a Farsi book called Parandeh Now Parvaz. We should inform
you that this book like hundreds of others has been printed abroad because such
books by the opposition forces of the Islamic Republic regime of Iran can not be
published in Iran due to severe censorship measures and lack of any freedom of
speech and publication. We undersigned hold different spectrum of beliefs and
opinions and not necessarily uphold the views reflected in the aforementioned
book. However, this book has been displayed and publicized in many Iranian
sites and bookstores abroad including those of undersigned and we consider
arrest of Mr. Namini- himself an ex-political prisoner of the IRI- and the
snatching of this book in Pierson airport an affront to freedom of speech and
publication. We hope that you will see into this matter as soon as possible.
Please accept our due respects.
