PROTESTA MUNDIAL CONTRA EL DESAFUERO

Estudiantes, acadйmicos y residentes mexicanos en el extranjero
hacemos pъblico nuestro rechazo al desafuero del Jefe de Gobierno de
la Ciudad de Mйxico, Andrйs Manuel Lуpez Obrador, consumado el 7 de
abril pasado.

Estamos convencidos de que es una acciуn coordinada entre el Gobierno
Federal y los partidos aliados a йl (PRI y PAN), que tiene el objetivo
polнtico de eliminar de la contienda electoral al posible candidato
presidencial con mayor apoyo popular en el paнs y el mejor ubicado en
las encuestas de intenciуn de voto.

Mбs que buscar instaurar la legalidad (de ser esa su intenciуn habrнan
empezado por ellos mismos), la acciуn de procesarlo e inhabilitarlo
polнticamente es un intento de perpetuarse en el poder. Esto volverнa
ilegнtimas las elecciones presidenciales del 2006 y obstaculizarнa el
proceso democrбtico en Mйxico.

Queremos aclarar que antes que apoyar a un candidato o a un partido,
lo que demandamos es el respeto al derecho democrбtico de los
mexicanos y mexicanas a decidir por nuestro futuro.

Buscamos y luchamos por un Mйxico para todos y todas, en donde no
tengan mбs cabida la injusticia, la corrupciуn ni la impunidad.

Por eso hoy, 24 de abril, nos manifestamos en muchas ciudades del
mundo -como lo hacen en Mйxico- porque queremos que la comunidad
internacional conozca la injusticia y el golpe a la democracia que se
estб fraguando en nuestro paнs.

Desde aquн, alzamos nuestra voz para decirle al gobierno de Vicente
Fox y a sus partidos polнticos cуmplices que:

No permitiremos que nos quiten nuestro derecho a decidir!


WORLD PROTEST AGAINST THE IMPEACHMENT OF ANDRЙS MANUEL LУPEZ OBRADOR

To the people and governments of the world
To the people of Mйxico
To the congress: deputies and senators
To the president of Mйxico Vicente Fox Quesada

We, students, academics and Mexicans living abroad state publicly our rejection to the impeachment of the mayor of Mexico City, Andres Manuel Lуpez Obrador, which was enacted on April 7th, 2005.

We are convinced that this was an action coordinated between the federal government and its allied political parties (PRI and PAN). This action has the political goal of removing prematurely from the electoral race the possible presidential candidate with the highest popular vote -- and highest ranking in the polls.

More than attempting to restore justice and legality (if that was their intention, they would have started this process with themselves), the action of prosecuting and eliminating AMLO's political rights is an attempt to remain in power. This would illegitimize the presidential elections of 2006, and would block the democratic process in Mйxico.

We want to state that we are not supporting a party or a candidate; what we demand is respect for the ability of Mexicans to elect our future president democratically.

We seek and fight for a just Mexico for everyone, where there is no more injustice, corruption and impunity.

That is the reason why we protest in many cities of the world - as it is done in Mexico - because we want to make public to the international community the injustice and the blow to democracy that is being carried out in our country.

We raise our voice to tell Vicente Fox's government and his crony political parties that:
