There is an Approved List of subjects for University Entrance. The list of approved subjects can be modified at any time as deemed appropriate by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
In order to be accepted onto the list, a subject should provide its students with a reasonable chance of successes at degree-level study and have subject matters and assessments to indicate that a student who takes the subject has skills and knowledge that would:
1) contribute substantially to a student’s general ability to undertake a
programme of study at a university, and/or
2)provide a foundation for study in a particular subject or discipline at a
university.
Psychology CLEARLY meets these criteria and must be added to the Approved Subjects List. Let's make it clear to the Minister of Eduction that secondary school Psychology should be on the Approved List from 2012.
