Recently there's been a petition circulating to spread negativity regarding Beyonce's new video for her single "Deja Vu". This petition is for the real fans that are excited about Beyonce's upcoming album and want to show their support and appreciation for her work.
Beyonce is an artist. Art is meant to inspire discussion and debate. The "Deja Vu" video does just that. Like it or not, it has provoked thought and created conversations. People want to know about the designs Beyonce is wearing. They want to know about her hairstyles in the video. They want to know about Jay-Z in the video. She has created a piece of work that is worthy of discussion and I believe that's what she intended to do.
From what I've read, the video is meant to be dream-like. The "crazy" dance moves people are talking about go with the lyrics about how she feels like she's going crazy, so it's hard to see where people aren't getting the connection between the song and video.
As for Jay-Z, people complained when they weren't together publicly. Now people are complaining when they ARE together publicly. Make up your mind, homie!
The clothing in the video is couture. I wouldn't wear Beyonce's outfits to school but she's not wearing them to school either. They're COSTUMES. She's a fashion icon creating an IMAGE. It's a music video for crying out loud, not a guide to what to wear to work. She's always been ahead of the game when it comes to fashion, and those SAME looks people want to hate on her for are the SAME looks they're trying to copy next season when B has already moved onto something else.
In the end, one music video does not and will not represent an entire album. Beyonce is an incredibly talented and diverse artist and I believe "Deja Vu" lives up to the standard she has set as a musician.
