MTV2, or M2 to its friends, happened on the scene in the late '90s as a bastion of hope for both bands and fans of semi-underground music. Videos, now an afterthought on the original Music Television, flickered all day and night and touched on a cornucopia of artists and genres. The vj's were unobtrusive and respectful, for they knew that the music came first. Special programming was inventive, including one fine new year's day where they began playing EVERY video in their library from A to Z (by song title. It took months to complete,).
Such inventiveness, respectability, and diversity have seemingly been lost forever. The channel called MTV2 is now just a shadow of its former self. The channel now plays the same mind-numbing rubbish its forefathers played. Remember that cornucopia? It has been violently replaced with bland and derivative rap, rock, and top 40. And as for programming, it's been watered down into one disastrous concept - "Sucka Free Sundays", essentially like any other day on this once-great station. While the return of Headbangers Ball and the possibilities of Subterranean shine like glimmers of hope, the future looks dark for fans of the original MTV2.
However, with your help, we can reform, revive and return it to its former glory. By signing below, you are reminding MTV2 of its roots, its storied past, in hopes of hearkening back to the golden era of alternative music television. I was really pissed off when MTV2 keep showing shows EVERY DAY! Get rid of Diary, Making the Video, Making the Band, MTV Cribs, rap-related shows, and the rest of the shows that are non-music related. While you're at it, get rid of that "Sucka Free Sunday
