"...everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah."
I am not claiming that his comments were well worded. But I find it odd that CNN would immediately fire him. Are you telling me that comments from Jack Cafferty, Lou Dobbs, and Eric Erickson are all well and good, or is it just that Sanchez didn't cozy up with execs?
This seems to point to a double standard within CNN. A few years ago, your network brought Kathy Griffin on to do the New Year's show with Anderson Cooper, during which she yelled numerous obscenities on the air, live, to the whole world. What she said is indefinitely more offensive then calling someone a bigot. Yet you still brought her back the next year.
Look, we've all said stupid things, we all make mistakes. I am not creating this to try and excuse Rick's comments. But to fire him within a day, no explanation, no chance for him to explain himself, no context, is disingenuous. If you truly "wish him well" and "[appreciate] his years of service" you owe him his job back. Nothing Sanchez said is worth crippling someone's career.
Cafferty, Dobbs, Erickson, Martin, Beck, O'Riely, all have made comments more extreme then Sanchez. They still have a job. Ask yourselves, are you honestly targeting him because of his comments, or the context behind them? Like he does every day at 3PM, Rick is merely stating what America is thinking, that our media is typically controlled by corporate elites, not people who care about informing the public. We demand that this national conversation continue.
