Remove Chocolate Milk from Oconomowoc Schools

One cup of chocolate milk has been shown to have an additional 60 calories per serving. In addition, it has been shown that chocolate milk has similar levels of sugar as regular non-diet soft drinks. Therefore, over the course of about 180 school days, an additional 10,000 acalories a year are consumed by each child that drinks one chocolate milk per day. Over a child's elementary education (4K - 4th grade) that equals to nearly 60,000 additional calories; or using the formula that that every 3500 calories equals one pound, then that equates to about 17 pounds.

We also understand that many arguments are made for chocolate milk to provide the essential nutrients, such as calcium. We also agree that it is our obligation as parents and teachers to ensure that our children lead a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, we agree that our children, just as we did in our youth, will drink the white milk if no sugary alternatives are given.

We petition the Oconomowoc Area School District to remove the Chocolate Milk Option from the regular elementary school lunch menu and limit the option to only once per month, for special events
