Remove Racist Postcards

We are outraged by the racist paraphernalia sold at PJ's Coffeehouse at its four (4) locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. There is no place for postcards depicting African Americans in slave garb in 2009. The "Red Hot Louisiana" post cards should no longer be sold in any of the four PJ's Coffeehouses.

We demand that the owner remove the "Sho' is Fine" Sugar, "Mammy-Ann Brand" Cane Syrup, "Aunt Lody's Yams," and "Uncle Kola's Yams." The postcards have stereotypical images of black men and women from the period of enslavement.

In addition to the pictures, the names on the cards are also highly insensitive due to the racialized and stereotypical nature of the "Aunt" and "Uncle" colloquialisms therefore the proper management of PJ's should make the responsible decision to remove the post cards from each of its locations.
