Petition Summary and Background: We desire to have a pool at Pattengill Middle School so that: 1) the new school will meet community standards, encouraging parents to send their children there; 2) during school hours, Pattengill students can be taught to swim, because swimming is an important life skill in Michigan; 3) Eastern High School and Lansing Catholic Central will have access to a good-sized nearby pool; 4) Lansing School District will have at least one pool that is adequate for swim meets, because the pool at Harry Hill Center is too shallow for diving; and 5) the east side of Lansing will have a community pool.
Action Petitioned For: We, the undersigned, respectfully request that a swimming pool comparable to other facilities at modern school buildings and designed for student, team, and community use, be built at the new Pattengill Middle School using any available funds remaining from the school bond that was approved by Lansing voters in 2003, as well as any other funds that can be found for this purpose.

I can't believe it wasn't part of a plan for the new school from the start, although I shouldn't be surprised given the current LSD board of ed.

Students at Pattengill should have the same opportunities as students in other Lansing middle schools. Plans for the new school should have included a pool.
