Whereas the Santa Cruz Aquifer is the sole source of water in the Green Valley/Sahuarita communities and

Whereas the Santa Cruz aquifer has been and is being depleted from 2 to 4 feet per year, and the Arizona Department of Water Resources' modeling report forecasts an additional depletion of 50 to 75 feet by year 2025 and

Whereas no plans currently exist to stop the depletion and solve the 31,000 Acre-Feet deficit between withdrawal and recharge each year and

Whereas this problem is widely known by experts and knowledgeable citizens and recognized as an impending disaster and

Whereas no effective authorities are known to be able deal with and prevent this impending disaster then

We hereby request that the Pima County Board of Supervisors declare the Santa Cruz Aquifer depletion a crisis and immediately initiate whatever steps are necessary to mitigate and solve this problem.
