A small change in protocol in Breast Check can save lives . Both breasts should automatically be rescreened at diagnostic call back . This will prevent the mistake made at my recall screens . I was recalled for diagnostic screens when cancer was seen in my breast at schedulled mammogram in 2015 . Unfortunately the radiologist requested rescreening of the WRONG breast and I got A false All Clear report. This allowed my cancer to grow and become invasive over the following 2 years .
In 2017 I became symtomatic and had 3 surgeries , ending with a mastectomy .I am now high risk of recurrance and needing long term adjuvant cancer treatment . This could have been avoided if both breasts had been rescreened at call back in 2015 . My cancer would have been noted and treated at an earlier stage with 1 minor surgery . Invasion would not have occured and I would have a much more positive prognosis .
Early detection saves lives . Rescreening BOTH breasts at diagnostic recall will negate any possible mistakes by radiologists mixing up Left & Right breast. A mistake like that should never happen but sadly it did with me . Please sign my petition to make sure it never happens again .
