We, the undersigned, ask the Executive member for Highways of Hertfordshire County Council to review his decision to implement part-night street lighting in Watford.
In his decision making, he has failed to take into account the uniqueness of Watford in comparison to the rest of Hertfordshire, including its dense population, night time economy and high amount of night time workers. This means Watford has a high amount of night time pedestrian footfall and so has a need to be treated differently to other parts of Hertfordshire. We therefore ask the Executive member, in his review, to consider alternatives including:
a) keeping every other light or third light on
b) Investing capital to move street lights to LED, allow them to be dimmed and/or install movement sensor lights
c) changing the timings so lights are off for less time
d) Allowing the flexibility so, if a certain threshold of residents wish for certain lights to stay on, the residents views are taken into account
e) looking at other ways of making savings that does not reduce the service to residents
We hope the Executive Member takes our views seriously and does a full comprehensive review of this policy.
