In its Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2004-50 of July 15th, 2004, CRTC has approved the addition of Romanian Television International (RTVI) to the lists of eligible satellite services for distribution on a digital basis (the digital lists).
Unfortunately, the channel is yet to be included by Canadian cable and satellite service providers.
We have been advised that Canadian cable and satellite operators encounter difficulties to add a new channel to their lists due to limited bandwidth allocated by CRTC. Hence, the RTVI channel approved by CRTC is on their waiting list.
It does not make sense for CRTC to approve a TV channel if it cannot technically be distributed. The Romanian communities throughout Canada would like to appeal to CRTC to expand the Canadian regulatory framework, so that Romanian Television International TV channel is available to them in Canada through subscription with a local Canadian company.
We are also asking Canadian cable and satellite service providers to push for the adoption of legislation by CRTC that will allow them to distribute RTVI channel to their subscribers.
