Route-C Bus Service Evening Petition

There is, however, no Friday or evening service available. Although students are able to take the route E bus and request a stop at 12th street and First Avenue, this is not helpful for students who live in buildings on the northern and eastern sides of the property. Another alternative open for students are the Safe-ride vans; however, this service only begins to operate at midnight, while most graduate courses end between 6 and 8 oclock p.m.
Given the popularity that the morning bus route has enjoyed, the dangers of walking the 2-mile distance between Stuyvesant town and Washington Square alone at night, the inclement weather of New York City winters, the fact that most of the Graduate students in residence are international students who are unfamiliar with the city along with the lack of other safe and affordable transportation options, we, the graduate population in residence at Stuyvesant town, would like to request that route C evening service be re-instated between 6:00 pm and 11:00 p.m.
Such a service would not only be an asset for our population, as graduate students often tend to stay later on campus finishing up their work, it would also demonstrate the universitys commitment to the safety and well-being both of its students who live in non-campus residence halls and of its graduate students.
We wish to present the following resolution: that route C evening service be re-instated between 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. on weekdays with a bus leaving campus every 30-45 minutes.
