We would petition the Department of Education to extend the school day by thirty minutes either side of class-time. This would allow a greater window of opportunity for parents to drop-off/pick-up their children, thereby reducing traffic volume and increasing safety outside the school on a minute by minute basis.
Teachers are to be responsible for this on a roster basis, but for no further remuneration; with one very good reason. The budget is strained enough as it is, with little money for much needed building and maintenance, and wages/pensions accounting for more than 80%; a connection teachers bemoaning conditions fail to see.
