The Dal Lake, which is the jewel in the crown, as far as the beauty is concerned is dying a silent death. The Lake is shrinking continuously every passing day. The Lake is being encroached upon on all sides- human settlements are being raised on its outskirts and most of the Lake has been taken over by weed. The area of the Lake is shrinking at a very drastic pace.
If drastic measures aren't adopted on a war-footing basis, the Dal Lake may soon become a thing of the past and children will only hear stories of its breathtaking beauty.
Dal Lake doesn't only have aesthetic value but it also supports the livelihood of many people who depend mostly on the Tourist inflow. If there will be no Dal, there will no tourists and hence a lot of families will be deprived of their bread and butter.
As such, it's a heartfelt appeal to the Government of J&K and India, to take remedial measures before it is too late.
