The NHS Argyll & Clyde have announced that they plan to downgrade Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH), including closing the Accident and Emergency Department, transferring all surgical cases to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and closing the Ravenscraig Hospital Complex.
Despite mass public opposition, NHS Argyll & Clyde last year closed the consultant led maternity department and downgraded the children's ward.
The outcome of the current proposal would see a basic emergency service and no geriatric care in the area - covering Inverclyde (Greenock, Gourock, Port Glasgow, Langbank, Wemyss Bay, Inverkip, Skelmorlie), Largs, Cowal and the Clyde Islands.
