- For the prices of new mainstream albums to be cut by at least 25\%.
- For the music industry to understand that most people do not wish to download illegally, but will continue to do so unless record companies and retailers stop their greed and charge reasonable prices.
- For record companies to decrease the prices of albums released over ten years ago even more so.
- For the average price of new legal music downloads to also be cut by at least 25\%.
- For assurance that when we buy an album, the artist is receiving the money they deserve from that sale.
- For the closure of tab and lyric sites to cease.
- For the reselling of gig tickets considerably above face value to be made illegal, and for venues and ticket sellers to take more action against those who use this practice as a means to cheat genuine fans.
- For "consumers" to be treated fairly, for the removal of ridiculous copyright laws, and the stopping of intrusive and extreme 'Digital Rights Management'.
We want to pay for music, but we want to pay fair prices and will not stand for the current greed in the industry.
Some say such cuts would drive the record companies out of business; this is not true. Music is not a physical product like a chair or a washing machine; it is a product of our creativity, which costs nothing. Of course for major artists there are obscene production costs, but when you consider how much of these are actually necessary, and how much this compares to the profits made (although not by the artist, of course).
Perhaps if independent artists were treated fairly they might actually be able to make a living. The actual physical products we buy, the CD's, cost practically nothing, and even these costs are no longer necessary with the internet.
When we buy music we want to support the artists, but at present it is not the artist's we are supporting, it is the greedy executives. When you buy a major album, only a tiny amount of the money ever actually goes to the artist.
We want record companies to stop thinking of music as a product, that is something it will never be. I love music, and I want to save it from greed.
