We, the undersigned, petition Manchester City Council to show courage and refuse to implement the ConDem cuts, in particular, by cutting the Social Care budget.
Manchester City Council has announced massive cuts to social care in our city. These cuts will have a devastating impact on the most vulnerable people in our communities at a time when the wider economic crisis is already making the problems that people face much worse. This includes support for people with disabilities, mental health problems, who are homeless, are escaping domestic abuse, teenage parents, the elderly, and people with drug and alcohol dependency issues.
We want our councillors to stand alongside us and fight back against the ConDem cuts rather than acting as accomplices to the government. Our councillors should work with representatives of community groups, local authority workers and trade unions, trades councils and other political activists, to block council officers or government commissioners from seizing control and implementing the cuts.
