Save Percy Jackson's School

We the undersigned urge Outwood Grange Academies Trust & Doncaster council to stop the proposed demolition of the old Percy Jackson's school building and instead ask them to find an alternative use for this building such as 6th Form College combined with an Administrative Block for instance. This wonderful Art Deco building of great character was built during the late 1930s & had it's official opening delayed by WW2. Sir Fred Clarke opened it on 23rd October 1943. It was named after Sir Percy Jackson who sadly died at his home, sentimentally called 'Woodlands', at Scisset in 1941. His cousin, Councilor R.M.Jackson was the Mayor of Doncaster in 1919. During the war it was a safe haven for the Riley High Schoolboys from the heavily bombed city of Hull. There were other evacuees from Southern regions eg Kent, attending the school. Many of the staff were called up to serve in the war & some were awarded Medals for their distinctive service. We urge those responsible to not to wipe out the valuable history of such a vibrant school!
