Save Southside Pool

The Southside Pool in Rockhampton has recently been renovated with the opening of a new, Olympic standard heated pool and further plans for infrastructure such as a small teaching pool for kids. Last winter (2012) the pool was opened for restricted hours but this winter the RRC are considering closing the pool or again restricting the opening hours. Many people are not yet aware that the pool is open as there is still construction occurring. Although more people are using the pool than ever before, usage is still low because not all the facilities are yet building and there are no hot showers available. The momentum built up over 2012 since reopening of the pool may be lost if it is closed or the hours are restricted. In addition, valuable staff are lost because they must seek employment elsewhere during winter.

We petition the RRC to keep the Southside Pool open during winter with adequate hours to allow equitable use of this fantastic new facility.
