About the Forest Children's Centre
A few years ago, the Welsh Assembly gave funding to establish Integrated Children’s Centres (ICC’s) in each local authority area in South Wales. Newport’s ICC was developed using capital funding from Newport City Council and lottery funding.
The Forest Children’s Centre was established in April 2006 to support children, young people and their families. As a minimum, ICC’s must offer child care, early years provision, parenting and open access play.
FCC Opening in 2006
The Forest Children’s Centre aims to break the cycle of deprivation affecting the lives and chances of young people by providing a one stop shop of activitiesand services to this targeted group. As a result of having the Centre on the same site as a school (Duffryn Infants and Juniors), it has improved it’s links with the school and the local High School (Duffryn High). For example, the Centre Manager also sits on the Governing Body of Duffryn Infants School.
The ICC has a management group for the effective governance of the ICC, which involves members from each element of the service community. This group meets on a bimonthly basis to review it’s management reports.

The Cafe closing, crèche closing and staff being moved elsewhere and the community not being consulted!
The Centre is used on a daily basis by many, we as parents are not happy about not being informed, where do we go from here?
