The Stagecoach Inn is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. It was an early stagecoach stop, inn, tavern and post office. In 1867 B.T. Roberts founded the Chili Seminary, the very first Free Methodist educational institution in the U.S. The Stagecoach Inn should stand as a museum to educate future generations about;
The temperance movement, North Chili was a dry town for about 100 years.
Abolitionists and the role of religious groups in the operation of the Underground Railroad. The Free Methodists were staunch abolitionists.
Womens Rights, B.T. Roberts wrote a book entitled Ordaining Women in 1891.
The beginnings of the Free Methodist Church, a branch of the Methodist Church that broke away from the church pew rental system.
Farmers rights and national economic reform were also promoted by B.T. Roberts in his writings.
The Stagecoach Inn has been waiting 190 years to tell its storydont let Maude Development and Walgreens take that away from us! We strongly urge that the Stagecoach Inn be placed on the National Register of Historic Places and be made available for historic preservation to ensure that the Stagecoach Inn stands for another 190 years.
