The Timeless Music Festival is invaluable to Huddersfield. It is perhaps the only major multicultural event in the Kirklees area. Despite this, the project is lacking vital support from Kirklees Council. We need to demonstrate to the council that the project should be on their agenda. If we can gather enough signatures we may be able to get the council to recognise the value of this nationally acclaimed music event.
The first Timeless Community Music Festival was put together in 2002 by the Chocolate Fireguard label in partnership with regeneration agency Huddersfield Pride Ltd, with support from Kirklees Councils Young Peoples Services and Cultural Services. It came about after a wave of vandalism and antisocial behaviour hit Ravensknowle Park. This included damage to a recently renovated historical clock tower monument, now used as the Festivals second stage.
The event has gone from strength to strength, developing into a major cutting edge three-stage Community Festival with a serious reputation, drawing audiences in their thousands. Guardian Guide pick of the week two years running (2004 and 2005), it is perhaps the only truly multicultural and multi-aged event in Kirklees. It brings to the town a positively diverse and multicultural mix of international entertainment.
