While this seems aesthetically pleasing in regards to the amount of money that will apparently be saved, when investigated further in the long run it will not only WASTE money but it will also jeopardise the communities children's immediate futures. Not only now but in 10-15 years down the line, the effects of this action will still be felt. The Council has an expected over spend of 380,000 for the year 2010/11, meaning that the saving of 40,000 for the year will only begin to make a difference in 10 years time. If the Council manages to stick to it's budget, in which a poor percentage is spent on local education programmes may I add.
Parents will feel obliged to send their children to Park Primary school, despite personal choice. Thus meaning all other primary schools in the area through-out time will see a decline in student intake year after year until eventually, the council will see it financially viable to merge the local primary schools into one. Meaning we may end up with just one or two over-crowded and under-achieving primary schools.
The parents and staff of Tower Nursery have through the years made Tower Nursery a brilliant place for children to begin their education. The fund raising and community support have made Tower Nursery a brilliant place for low income families' to send their children as trips and other special occasions are paid for by the fund raising events, leaving minimal costs for the parents. With this merger, all money raised for and by the nursery will be distributed through the entire Park learning institute, which will only continue to raise costs for parents in this time of economic downturn.
Trivial things such as Tescos 'Sports Equipment For Schools' promotions and it's benefits to the Nursery will be called into question as all vouchers collected will be distributed among the entire Park learning institute, thus the Nursery will NOT directly benefit from these particular promotions.
I disagree with the proposed merger of Tower Nursery and Park Primary on the basis that it will not be beneficial to the children of the community in the long run.
