Treetops and Harmony Nurseries in the borough of Brent are threatened with closure unless local residents can find a private company or form a social enterprise themselves to take them over.
Parents have been given 7 weeks to submit a full business plan to the council or the the nurseries will close in March 2012.
We have offered to pay higher fees however the council have indicated that this is not of interest to them as they have no legal obligation to provide childcare facilities for working parents.
The nurseries are much needed in these areas where other childcare facilities carry waiting lists of 100 - 200 people.
