Stubbington is a unique village with a great community spirit. The Shopping area known as “The Village” remains the hub of the whole area and offers a well balanced mix of shops, services and clubs that are continually patronised by both local residents and neighbouring communities, however with the threat of paid parking in both the village and the costal car parks there is a great chance peoples current use of these areas will alter dramatically: Say No to Parking Charges In This Area……. Below are reasons why we object to the council’s consultation period and possible changes to the present parking arrangements. 1. The adverse effect on the vibrant trading area, community centre, Doctors and Dentist Surgery’s and Library. 2. Residents and Visitors avoiding the charges are likely to add inevitable congestion to the free spaces in the neighbouring areas. This will be particularly troublesome for the village during the school run periods and the coastal areas during the summer months. 3. Anything that upsets the balance of the village could see the mix of Shops and Services altered forever. This will yield a small parking fee gain but a huge loss of income from the Traders. This could jeopardize some businesses and therefore create a situation where the business rates collected by the council could be reduced by this measure; surely this is a very short sited proposal? 4. The Coastal car parks are a free form of exercise, it is widely recognised that people from all generations are not exercising enough. The public needs to be encouraged to go out and use it not penalised. 5. The Workers in local businesses will be forced to pay parking fees and this would add more pressure to the businesses to supplement this. 6. We feel that the Council have worded the consultation survey in a biased framed way! Should the question be “Do you want Parking Charges in Stubbington and Hillhead Car parks? The survey also lacks the space for people to expand and “Have There Say”. If you would like to stop a change to the local parking arrangement for any of the above reasons then please sign this petition and let the council aware of your point of view. I Say No to Parking Charges In This Area…….
