To Our Government, the REPRESENTATIVES ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE,
We the signatories of this petition give our voices to the voiceless, societies most vulnerable people as we express our opposition to the states decision to place a CAP on the employment of Special Needs Assistants and to place a 'Pause' on the provision of Resource teaching hours.
You all seem to be delusional in thinking that the CAP and 'Pause' are going to be in someway beneficial to the system and society when realistically the whole education system will suffer as the impact will be felt by every child teacher and parent in a classroom where there is a SEN Child.
The central point of the ESPEN Act is the the inclusion of children with Special educational needs in mainstream education, when the good times rolled there was no problem in creating SNA positions and now through the fault of others the innocent are being punished funding and recourses that were once deemed acceptable are now being withdrawn from schools nationwide.
In cases where resources have previously been allocated, a teacher will now be expected to provide the level of support a SN Child needs, without the support of the Resource Teacher and/or SNA whilst maintaining the duty of care they have for the rest of the class. This is unacceptable and we refuse to allow it happen!
Together we aim to provide an appropriate education to all and in order to achieve this we need to be backed by a committed Government who will not go back on promises they've made.
