Statehood To Mumbai!!!!

Mumbai is seen as nothing but a cash-cow by almost everyone who is responsible for the administration of the city. A single appalling statistic says it all: Mumbai is the single largest contributor to Government of India revenues, offering over Rs 50,000 crore by way of taxes but it gets back less than 1\% to improve its infrastructure.

The city sends only six members to the Lok Sabha, a voice that is effectively drowned out in a House with a strength of 543. The municipal corporation and the police are the preserve of bureaucrats rather than elected officials -- and they may be from any state. The Mayor of Mumbai and its Sherrif hold largely ceremonial posts. Effectively, none of them has a real stake in
Mumbai.

So then whats the solution? The dream thing, of course, would be to separate Mumbai from the rest of the state, and run it totally via private enterprise. Where decisions are made by able, skilled, talented professionals, not by twitty country bumpkins.

Mumbai is angry. Not for the first time and surely not the last. Unfortunately, as always, it faces the danger of this anger dissipating and flowing away, into routine, into the usual, private, occasional outbursts. It risks dissolving into memories, into dinner table cribs and beer bar stories, into water cooler accounts in offices and, perhaps, bureaucratic laments.

This time the citizens of Mumbai dont ask but DEMAND that the Goverment of India lets go of the egoistic political CRAP!!!! and does what should have been done a long time ago.......GIVE STATEHOOD TO MUMBAI!!!!!!!
