Stop Ban of VBAC at Martin Memorial Medical Center

Martin Memorial Medical Center no longer allows vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) as of September, 2003. All birthing women are negatively affected by a medical community that does not fully support natural childbirth. By not allowing vaginal births after cesarean, Martin Memorial Medical Center continues this trend of taking away womens right to have a natural childbirth.
We, the healthcare consumers of Martin County and the surrounding area, call for this decision to be reversed immediately. Statistics show vaginal birth after cesarean to be safe, and 80\% of women who attempt a VBAC succeed. One in four births, (24.1\% in 2002), at Martin Memorial Medical Center are cesarean births. Martin Memorials decision to ban VBAC will potentially raise the Cesarean rate even higher for non-medical reasons.
We believe that healthcare consumers needs and accurate facts should be the guiding forces behind decisions regarding the services offered by hospitals. We believe women have the right to safe birthing options.
I strongly disagree with Martin Memorials decision to BAN VBAC and as a Consumer in Martin County and the surrounding area I demand an immediate reversal of this decision.
