This petition has been created to show solidarity with serving republican prisoners in Maghaberry Gaol, Co Antrim. Currently in Maghaberry, republican prisoners are being subjected to unjust and brutal treatment at the hands of the prison regime in operation there, on behalf of the British government.
Some examples of the inhumane treatment being dished out to republican prisoners include:
-Daily degrading strip searches, particularly during visiting times with friends and family members(family members are also subjected to this)
-Regular physical and psychological torture in the form of beatings, 23/24 hour lock up, restriction of movement or interaction with other republican prisoners etc
-The grossly unjust practise of internment is also in full effect, with numerous men interned despite having not being tried or convicted with no sign of a fair trail in sight, Colin Duffy a republican internee and a man no stranger to British felon setting and intimidation has been locked up in Maghaberry since March 2009!.
The above is all in contradiction of the Geneva convention and its guidelines which prohibit such treatment to political prisoners.
In signing this petition you show solidarity with Irish republican prisoners, oppose the barbaric treatment being met out by the British prison system and support fully their right to political status.
This petition will be handed personally to those responsible for this mistreatment and those complacent with it.
