Area Cable Commission) will take over the operations of TVTV
(Tualatin Valley Television) as of July 2005. As of this posting MACC
has neither confirmed or denied whether they will continue to
provide services to the public, however they have stated an interest
to increase the amount of government programming. This, plus planned
budget cuts means some services will no longer be offered at TVTV.
Since MACC finds public access pointless and expensive, it is
obvious that come July public services will be cut.
Currently, TVTV is the only way in Washington County that the public
can reach out to the community through TV to create quality
productions.
If MACC makes the decision to cut public services the people of
Washington County will still be required to pay the same amount of
franchise fee's as they do now. Imagine paying for a burger, fries
and a drink, but they only gave the burger.
This petition is an effort to do 3 things:
1. Urge city officials in Washington County to continue to provide a
healthy balance of PUBLIC, Education, and Government (PEG) services
Regardless of whoever manages the operations of TVTV.
2. Reverse the recent takeover by MACC and restore operational
control to TVTV to operate within it's means as a independent
non-profit organization.
3. Dissolve MACC & replace it with an organization that has the true
interest of the people it serves.
Public Access is a vital part of every healthy community. It allows
anyone with the desire to create or view creative, original
programming and should not be taken away from those who wish to provide a quality service to the community.
