This is a petition to object to the potential gypsy and traveller site in Maulden, Bedfordshire.
You may be aware that Central Bedfordshire Council ("CBC") has identified 35 potential sites for gypsies and travellers. One of the proposed sites is site 20, Duckend Farm to New Road, Maulden (the "Proposed Site"). The Proposed Site has passed two assessments for suitability carried out by CBC. A meeting will be held at CBC on 28 February 2013 at which the 35 potential sites will be reduced to 10 following a further assessment of each site against listed criteria. Maulden is a village located in rural countryside and simply does not have the infrastructure to support the proposed development. The development would have potentially devastating consequences for local amenities, the appearance of the village and the settled community.
It is our intention to deliver this petition to CBC in advance of the meeting on 28 February 2013.
We, the undersigned, protest against the proposed development of the Proposed Site for gypsy and traveller use.
We call upon CBC to:
1) reject the Proposed Site; and
2) fully consult with local residents on any future proposals affecting Maulden.
