Stop The Proposed Telus Communication Tower

We strongly oppose the proposed construction of the 100 foot Communication Transmission Tower at Covenant Canadian Reformed Teachers College at 410 Crerar Drive (located on the east side of the Guido de Bres school).





There are many reasons that we are opposed to the proposed Telus Communication tower:


1. Health Issues of Electromagnetic Radiation:


Guido de Bres school has over 400 students, it would be in close proximity to residential a neighborhood and Crerar Park 1 (where local children would play directly in the shadow of the proposed tower)


2. Environmental Impact:


The proposed location for this cellular tower is beside green space located in the City owned Crerar Park 1 and the current vacant parcel of land to the north of Guido de Bres owned by the Hamilton Public School Board. The effects of EMR on trees and vegetation are significant enough to warrant concern. There is evidence that electromagnetic radiation decreases bird, bee and bat populations in areas of cell towers.


3.Residents Choice has been Taken Away:


The residents surrounding the Teachers College did not buy their homes next to a cellular transmission tower.


4. Who Will Benefit From Cellular Tower:


Only the landowner and Telus clients will benefit from this cell tower. Why should the majority of individuals in our community be forced to deal with the negative aspects of the cell tower for the financial gain of one landowner?


5. Telus:


Telus has not proved why existing towers in the area or an alternative location cannot be used instead of erecting a new one in a residential area.


6. Residential Areas - Not the Place for Cell Towers:


Allowing residential landowners to place cell towers on their properties is not in the best interest of our community. These towers should be first placed on industrial, commercial, and agricultural zoned lands. There are other locations that would best suit this cell tower away from homes or schools.





The Board of Directors for the Covenant Canadian Reformed Teachers College is considering into entering into an agreement with Telus to allow the proposed cell tower to be constructed on their property. Industry Canada and not the City of Hamilton will hold final approval for the proposed tower thereafter, so it is very important that the Teachers College realize that once they sign an agreement with Telus, they will have no control over what Telus does with that tower.


Covenant Canadian Reformed Teachers College at 410 Crerar Drive is not a suitable site for this cellular tower based on the points outlined in this petition and should say 'NO' TO TELUS!
