The pertinent question is why is the removal of the subsidy the best option in a country that majority of its citizens are living in object poverty and no welfare or financial support of any kind to support the poor, unemployed, disabled etc. This pertition is to promote awareness and help stop this expliotative policy "the rich get rich and the poor get poorer policy" The best option is tackling the oil subsidy exorbitant payments to corrupt oil cabals and fixing the refinaries to operate in full capacity, build new ones and make the enabling environment for private sector investment in building and operating refinanries in Nigeria. The priority should not be the removal of the subsidy as this will just be a transfer of the money to same group of corrupt oil cabals without addressing the root cost of the problems which is the failure of the system to produce, maintain, manage and protect the refine petroluem production facilities to provide for the domestic market as its top priority before the exportation of petroluem whether crude or refined, the importation of petroluem should not be an option. The priority should be a comprehensive plan of transparency and accountability in the oil subsidy process from the top to the bottom to ensure value for money, while addressing the problems of getting the refinaries operating in full capacity and building new ones. This will no doubt significantly reduced the subsidy to the point that the purpose of the subsidy in the first place which is to support the economy will be achieved. The greatest issue is that of political will to do that which is right not that which is convenient.
