This petition is in response to the proposed Rat Ban legislation .
We, The Undersigned hereby join our voices in union, to say that the proposed Rat Ban is not acceptable.
We do not want to follow in the steps of Alberta, banning all rat ownership, thereby ecouraging rat owners to breed and keep their pets in secrecy.
With the devastation to farmers from the fallout of BSE, many are diversifying, in order to save their farms.
Rat farming is one option.
Hundreds and thousands of households and classrooms, keep rats as pets.
It is not acceptable that they should be forced to dispose of them, because of the "Scare Tactics" employed by our Pest Control Officers.
Please read the proposed legislation as noted below, and decide for yourself if this is acceptable to you.
Proposed Bylaw: No person shall keep, harbour, or
raise any "domestic" rats or any other rats of the
Genus rattus as pets or raise rats as a commercial
enterprise within the boundaries of the R.M. or of the
Province of Saskatchewan.
We would also request that each PCO request their
R.M.'s to send a resolution to SARM requesting that
the Pest Control Act be amended A.S.A.P. in order to
prohibit the raising of rats as covered in the
proposed bylaw.
This bylaw is invasive and takes away our right to own rats, with no valid justification to support it.
If they can ban pet rats, what pet will they ban next?
It must be stopped now.

My kids have pet rats as they are ideal for children, unlike hampsters and mice, thier clean, they interact, and if they run away, they will return to thier cages. A rat in a home is not the same as a rat in a field. Rats are ideal classroom pets. Go ahea
