Rent costs in New York City have been increasing over the past couple of months at a high rate; however, the conditions of apartments owned by low outcome tenants have not. Tenants are being abused by their landlords and their complaints are going unheard. Many tenants living in NYC are forced to pay rent that is unaffordable according to their incomes. Their incomes arent taken into consideration during these rent increases and the majority of the time they are forced out. Others tenants are forced to live without the basic necessities in their homes without repair from the landlords. Some tenants in poorer neighborhoods must go expanded periods without heat, water or apartment repair. Landlords must be held accountable for their property. Rent control guidelines need to be stricter towards landlords. The city needs to respond to tenants complaints quicker and stop terrible landlords from getting away with injustices.
