Students United Against Monday-Wednesday-Friday classes

We, the Students of Florida International University believe in exercising our right to protest in the change of Florida International University schedule. The Faculty Senate passed legislation on Monday, October 23, 2006 to integrate three spaced out periods of fifty minute intervals to accommodate more classes. We believe we should not have Monday-Wednesday-Friday classes for several reasons.
Our main concern is that with the Monday-Wednesday-Friday scheduling, class time will be reduced to fifty minutes. This does not leave sufficient time to engage with the professor in asking questions to further facilitate our better understanding of the course material. In addition to which, parking at Florida International University is already a problem. Increasing classes will only make the problem worse. Some students already come in late to class; with this new schedule, one could only estimate the number of late interruptions. Also, take into account the extra time needed to travel to school on Fridays. Imagine, traveling from University Park to Biscayne Bay for a fifty minute class. It does not seem feasible to get to both campus and park in enough time. And finally, Students work on the weekends. Many of us are working our way through school to accommodate the financial burden of attending a University. Having these Monday-Wednesday-Friday will further add to the load. Thus, we the Undersigned believe it is unfair and are against the passing and enforcement of Monday-Wednesday-Friday classes here at Florida International University.
